Barnes & Noble
Attention Reclaimed
The attention economy has diminished our ability to sit with one thing for too long.
While we may set screen time limits or log off social media, these solutions often end up feeling more like restrictions than rewards.
So we came up with a simpler solution:
Reading.
Barnes & Noble helps people reclaim their attention, one page at a time.
Retention
Retention will give users a timed reading passage, pulled from actual novels, and then give them a ten question test to see how much they retained (those familiar with AR Quizzes --- nuff said).
Oh and this mock-up is interactive.
Go ahead.
Give her a whirl.

It will be featured in The New York Times Games section, right alongside classics like Wordle and Connections.

The collaboration feels natural.
When you hear Best-Selling Novel, you think Barnes & Noble. But when you hear "Best-Selling Author" --- it almost feels raw without New York Times in front of it.

Your Screen Time, Your Book

The Retention Box
Players who play Retention at least 30 days in a row will be invited to participate in The Retention Box.
If they do participate, they will be challenged to read a novel in one sitting. The person who finishes it the quickest + scores accurately on the test will win a cash prize.

But wait, theres's more!
Hidden within the terms and conditions of the entry page will be a URL which links to a code you can enter to improve your chances of winning.
The final test to see who's really been paying attention.
